Ingredients:

  • 300g (10.5 oz) frozen buckthorn
  • 1 small piece of fresh ginger (about half a thumb size)
  • 1 tsp of cinnamon
  • 1-2 pieces of fresh turmeric
  • Zest of 1 large orange
  • Flesh of 1 large orange
  • Honey or maple syrup to taste (optional, for sweetness)

Instructions:

  1. Rinse the frozen buckthorn in warm water and place it in a blender.
  2. Thoroughly wash the orange. Zest the peel and add the zest to the blender.
  3. Peel the orange, discard the peel, and add the flesh to the blender (set aside a few pieces for decoration if desired).
  4. Peel the ginger and turmeric, and add them to the blender (or substitute with ½ tsp each of dried ground ginger and turmeric if preferred).
  5. Add 1 tsp of cinnamon.
  6. Blend everything until smooth.
  7. Optionally, add honey or maple syrup to balance the slightly sour taste of the buckthorn.

To prepare the tea: Use 2-3 spoonful of the mixture directly from the freezer for each cup of water. No need to thaw—just add water at 80-90°C (176-194°F) to preserve the vitamin C and nutrients. Stir well and enjoy!
